Ah, but will he buy us a house when he's rich and famous?

Michael came home today and announced that he has been invited to be in a band.

Remember that from high school? All the kids you knew who sat around and thought up names for the band they were going to have someday? They had the look down, the right name, the cover of their first album. They couldn't sing or play an instrument, but hey, they had the name.

Michael's band is a little more put together than that. I don't know if they have a name yet, but they are getting together tomorrow to practice, which is definitely a step in the right direction.

According to Michael the boy who invited him to join is a friend of a friend of a cousin of a girl Michael knows (or something like that). They're in the same class and got to talking the other day. The boy told Michael about the band and asked Michael if he wanted to be in it. Michael said, "Sure!" and then the boy asked what Michael could play.

Michael admitted he can't play any instruments, but he can sing. The boy responded, "Wow! You can sing?"

Yes, I'm laughing.

I'm glad he's doing this, though. I think he'll enjoy it and he'll have good memories later on from this. Especially if they're any good and get to perform anywhere. Being the lead singer in a band, hey, what kid wouldn't feel pretty good about that?

It's one of those things that I wish I'd done, back in high school. Not that I ever had an opportunity drop into my lap the way Michael has, but everyone I knew was either daydreaming about or trying to start a band. I could have taken advantage of the opportunity to do something, but I never did. I was pretty shy and scared back then, so I didn't take advantage of many opportunities. I'm glad Michael isn't afraid to try new things. It bodes well for his future happiness, in my opinion.
