School and other traumatic activities

Arielle loves going to school. Since her teacher lives near us, as well as another student in Arielle's class, we've worked out a carpooling arrangement. The teacher picks up the kids and takes them to school in the morning. Half the time I pick the kids up from school and the other half of the time it's the other mom.

Arielle loves this. I was a little worried that first morning we did this, but true to herself, she ran out the front door without a glance backward and when she got home was as happy and bubbling as can be. That's how it's been every school day. School is so very good for her.

Not so Gabrielle. One of the things that is nice about the carpooling is that I only have to deal with hysterical meltdowns on the school lawn every so often. And the rest of the time they only happen in the morning.

We just sent Arielle off to school. Poor little Gabrielle sobbed and sobbed. Part of it, I know, is that she wants her sister. She wants to go to school herself, though (something which is a couple of years away, sadly.) She's seen all the wonderful toys they have there and doesn't understand why she can't go and play with them too.

I'm trying to make sure that these mornings are special time for the two of us. So far, Gabrielle hasn't gotten attached to that thought. Mommy is wonderful, but playing with new toys is much better!

There are times when they are so sweet, so precious, so utterly adorable, that it makes my heart turn over when I look at them. I love them so much.
